It's the week. So much has gone into putting this wedding together. Sloughgrass Band, (Joe plays bass) is playing. The news went out in Facebook, and looked like the following:
To all the very special people who plan to attend Joe Olson and Julie Elick's Wedding: (Open Invitation)
1. Sloughgrass will be playing, and also hosting a Jam afterwards. (How fun is that?)
2. Bring your guitar for the jam, and feel free to play ("Blue Grass" up in the "Hill Grass").
3. No Gifts Please.
4. Pot Luck: Bring a dish or casserole to share with other wedding guests, and music lovers.
5. Chocolate Chip Cookies will be served by the bride and groom.
6. REMEMBER: Bring a chair or blanket to sit on while enjoying the music.
Pastor Nate Johnson sent a devotional also about a wedding. It goes as follows:
Listening to God; John 2
On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine." "Woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied. "My hour has not yet come." His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."
Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now." What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
REFLECTION: How can we be a part of God's wonderful and miraculous work in the world? Do the next thing He tells you to do. The command from Jesus was so mundane: fill jugs with water. But the anonymous, "unimportant" and "insignificant" servants obeyed Jesus with their best effort. They did not fill the jars half-way, but to the brim. Sure, Jesus would have changed even half-filled jars of water into wine. But half-hearted obedience would have meant so much less blessing for the servants and the wedding guests. Our full and enthusiastic obedience allows God to bless us and others abundantly. (Scripture-To-Go Roseau Evangelical Covenant Church)
