So the wedding was held up on Joes land. It was in a big field up on Minnesota Hill.
So, here is another story with pictures...
Outhouses were the issue and expensive to rent. We decided to take it to a higher level. Higher like, (the "hole" is lower), but you have to have something up on top (higher) to sit in.
I remember seeing a two story outhouse once out in Montana somewhere. They do that over there, ya sure they do. I couldn't figure out how it worked. There was a hole in the ceiling, above where you sit on the first floor. I know this because I looked up!..I could see all the way to the second floor ceiling. I was really thankful that there was nobody else sitting on that second floor situation. Hole-le moley!
So... we figured that because it was a potluck, we could have between 60 to 250 people. We needed two outhouses. Going online we found an outhouse collapsible tent. (see the picture) It had no floor for obvious reasons. There were also porta- potties for sale which were also collapsible. (Nice feature). The one we bought could handle up to 400 pounds. Now, I am trying to figure that out. It must mean the weight sitting on it, but not the diameter of the person.. Oh dear.
Anyway, we bought two orange collapsible outhouse tents. (They will not collapse when in use, this I can guarantee)!
Joe cut a big square of wood to fit the open bottom of each tent. He also cut a hole in the wood, and in the bottom of each porta-potty. Ka-ching!!! Bolt it all together, and stake it to the ground! It worked! And we own it! Grin
The Hole: It was the next issue. Minnesota Hill ls located on the Border of Canada. At least two feet or more of gravel is located below the top surface of dirt. (One plus feet) A regular auger would be toast if used to drill through the gravel, and a post hole digger would take most of the day. "Them gravel rocks are big"! (like hand size!) I know this because I had to move them into a pile!. Yup, I did!
Renting an auger is expensive. So we figured, because not only did we need it, but maybe the folks up on the hill may need a three point auger sometime.....
Yup we bought it. Now we own all that is needed for a portable outhouse, along with its hole. We now own two of them. Who knows when we will need to dig a hole again? If we need to, we will be ready! Oh JOY.. Minnesota Hill preparedness! My new motto.
Blessings, Julie (Elick) Olson
