I remember when I was 8

I wished to be 10 because

you finally get to be double digits.

And my mom told me, “Don’t wish time away.”

When I was 10 I wished to be 13

so I could be an official teenager.

Again my mom told me, “Don’t wish time away.”

Finally when I was 13 I wished to be 16.

My dream age. At 16 you can drive,

you’re basically an adult.

Now at almost 16, I wish I could go back.

I wish I could go back to when

drinking and smoking weren’t the norm.

I miss the smell of the crayon bags and

ripping a freezee open with my teeth....
