No One Home For Christmas

“And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.” Luke 2:4-5.

I wonder if Joseph traveled a lot before leaving Nazareth. He made several if not annual trips to Jerusalem for the Hebrew Passover festival. Nazareth was not on a trade route. It is about a 40 mile downhill walk to the Sea of Galilee. He could then join a trade caravan for another 90 miles to Jerusalem.
