Aleta Sanford was graduating with highest honors and double majors in English and Business Administration from Minnesota State University Moorhead at the December 19 graduation ceremony. Aleta is the daughter of Matthew and Julie Sanford of Roseau.
Les Mitterling was the lucky winner of the quilt given away at the Four Seasons Senior Center Christmas Dinner and Program.
The Ram girls hockey team defeated Moorhead 6-0. Scoring were Kayla Santl (3), Celine Stroot (2) and Kate Helgeson.
Roseau Athletes of the Week were Andrew Tuttle, Nolan Hanson, Emma Zimmerman, Morgan Boroos and Race Knochenmus.

Prize winners of $100 at the December 4 Roseau Holiday Fantasy drawing were Robert Glen, Lorie Homme, Barb Monsrud, Lindsay Paulson and Tish Comstock.
The Roseau Ram wrestlers placed 2nd at the Fosston Tourney. The three Roseau Champions at the tourney were Brett Jerome, Casey Warner and Kieren Oksanen.
The Lady Rams hockey team defeated Moorhead 5-1. Roseau goals were scored by Kirsten Grafstrom, Bailey Holter, Sarina Goos (2) and Ellice Murphy. Jenna Baumgartner was in net.
25 years ago – Dec. 11, 1999
Construction on the north rink which would be housed in a steel building located north of Memorial Arena was to begin in the spring.
The Reed River Trading Company of Roseau was established on April 21, 1999 for the purpose of renovating the historic Creamery/Drying Plant Building on south Highway 89 in the City of Roseau. The restored building was to house a museum for Polaris Industries, a restaurant including meeting facilities and a space for retail shops.
Glen and Irma Smith of Warroad celebrated 66 years together on December 7.
Elof Rud was celebrating his 100th birthday on December 18 at the home of David and Eleanor Johnson in Roseau.
Roseau Ram wrestlers took runner-up honors at the Fosston/Bagley Tournament. Winning individual tourney titles were Kevin Peterson, Ben Ullman and Jeradan Otto.
The Ram boys basketball team started off the season with a 62-54 win over the Mahnomen Indians. Mike Sallberg led Roseau with 17 points, Nate Olafson had 15, Nate Anderson, 12 and Justin Oster had 11.
40 years ago – Dec. 12, 1984
The Roseau school was installing a wood pellet conversion to one of the school’s existing boilers at Roseau. The project will allow the school to burn wood pellets or coal and replace the present usage of oil.

Sam and Jane Evans of Roseau announced the birth of a daughter, Heidi Jo Evans, born December 1, 1984.
Terry and Ann Haaby of Roseau announced the birth of a daughter, Heather Marie Haaby, born December 2, 1984.
The Roseau Leafs defeated the Bemidji Blues 12-3. Roseau goals were scored by Mike Lundbohm, Darrell Foss (2), Arlan Tveit, Mark Huglen (3), Richard Larson, Dean Byfuglien, Bruce Foss (2) and Doug Fevold.
Roseau High School “Players of the Week” were Boy’s Basketball- Stuart McFarlane, Hockey- Jerry Olson, Girl’s Basketball- Cathy McDonald and Wrestling- Mark Wold.
50 years ago –Dec. 12, 1974
Roseau County Sheriff Paul Knochenmus was elected second vice president of the Minnesota Sheriff’s Association.
Mrs. Carl Wahlberg recently completed a book on Roseau County history entitled “The North Land, A History of Roseau County” and was sending it to the publisher. She had begun research for the book in March of 1970.
The Roseau Ram hockey team opened the hockey season with a 7-0 win over Crookston. scoring goals were Mike Stone (2), Bruce Olson, Mike Burggraf (2), Keith Hedlund and Jeff Olson.
Winners in the VFW Voice of Democracy contest were: 1st- Susan Weston, 2nd- Carla Hemmingson and 3rd- David Erickson.
Christmas ideas from Lund Decorators in Roseau were new saddles, vacuum cleaners and Lowrey organs.
Eeg-Listug Funeral Home in Roseau was holding their grand opening on December 14-15.
75 years ago – Dec. 15, 1949
The Grand opening of the newly completed rink at Warroad was to be held on December 18 with the University of North Dakota hockey team playing the Thief River Falls Thieves.
The Roseau Cloverleafs were having their opening game against Winnipeg on December 31. All proceeds from all the hockey games scheduled by the Cloverleafs this season were to be donated to the Arena fund.
Nancy Kay Kvien of Pinecreek celebrated her sixth birthday by having some of her little friends over for a party.
Mr. and Mrs. Erhard Sjoberg will observe their 25th wedding anniversary on December 18 with an open house at their home.
Betty Brown was chosen to reign as queen over the Roseau High School annual band carnival. Princess was Lela Brandt and attendants were Rose Marie Meyer, Deaun Sheggrud, Marlene Peterson and Audrey Johnson.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wilson became the parents of a son. He promises to be a football player by weighing in at 8.5 pounds.
Miss Elsie I. Dahlen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Dahlen of Spruce was united in marriage to Albert David Haste on November 5.
Miss Rose Dokken was an honored guest at her home last Sunday, the occasion being her birthday anniversary.
