Dixie (Erickson) Hoard was sworn in as a new commissioner on the Metropolitan Airports Commission at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport. The former Roseau County native is a former stewardess for Northwest and Delta and resides in Thief River Falls.

Jenna Jensen, Social Services Director at Warroad Senior Living Center, was honored by Leading/Age Minnesota with the Ray Johnson Leadership in Action Award.

2015 Knights of Columbus District Level Free Throw winners were Faith Restad, Katie Borowicz, Beau Keagle, Ben LePard, Victoria Johnson and Nathan O’Connor.

The Roseau Rams, defending Section 8AA hockey champions, defeated River Lakes 2-0 in the quarter finals to advance. Scoring the Roseau goals were Conner Millner and Brandon Lund.

A house fire claimed the lives of Jadis Township couple Elaine and John Ulvin.

Roseau students named to the fall semester Dean’s List at Itasca Community College were Jonathan Eaton, Cody Kofstad, Brian Brandt and Tyler Orgon.

The former Mayor of Roseau, N.L. “Binky” Erickson, passed away at LifeCare Medical Center in Roseau on February 12 at the age of 81 years .

Roseau High School one-act play, “Hush Little Celia, Don’t Say a Word” cast members were Jaylin Stroot, Sarah Grafstrom, Emily Carlson, Mollie Rae Miller, Kassaundra Davidson, Anna Nelson, Sierra Janisch, Jake Jacobson, Amanda Fredrickson, Jon Dahl, Dana Grahn, Cassie Hove, Mariah Ellefson and Colin Anderson.

25 years ago – Feb. 24, 1995

Roseau Centennial belt buckles were available at Burggraf’s in Roseau. The antique pewter finish buckles were limited and numbered to 250.

Polaris announced that Jeff Bjorkman was named vice president of manufacturing.

April Olsen, daughter of Jeff and Autumn Olsen of Roseau, was one of seven students from the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University that auditioned and were selected for the Minnesota Collegiate Honors Band.

Ten colorful new hardcover books donated in memory of Jared VandeWege, son of Dr. Bryon and Mary VandeWege, who passed away at the age of five in September, were now available to be checked out at the Roseau Public Library.

Rose Jacobson was celebrating her 75th birthday with an Open House on March 11 at the Four Seasons Center in Roseau.

Roseau students that were winners in the Knights of Columbus free throw shooting contest held in Barnesville on February 19 were Todd Higgins, Kristi Glassmann and Jesse Bergland.

Billy Lund, captain of the 1990 Roseau High School State Champions, who plays on a top St. Cloud State University hockey line, was named WCHA Player of the Week.

Sheltering Oaks’ king and queen who were crowned on February 14 were Harold Wicklander and Doris Weiss.

40 years ago – Feb. 28, 1980

A “Salute to Neal Broten” was scheduled for March 2 at the Roseau high school gymnasium and “Dave Christian Day” was to be celebrated on February 28 in Warroad. They both played important roles in the U.S. Olympic hockey team’s gold medal victories at Lake Placid.

Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Herseth of Roseau announced the birth of a daughter, Kathryn Kristine Herseth, on January 18 in the Roseau Area Hospital.

The Lake of the Woods basketball team was heading for the regional tournament after topping Roseau in the District 32 Championship 70-44. Players on the Roseau team were Wicklander, Wagner, Thacker, Larson, Fevold, Lindgren, Vacura, Carlson and Kompelien.

Michelle Hauger, a seventh grade student, was selected as the Roseau “Student of the Week” for February 18-22.

50 years ago – Feb. 26, 1970

Jennifer Klema and Ida Mae Johnson of Roseau were members of the Augsburg College Concert Band.

A 1,000 ton capacity bulk fertilizer blending plant being built by Farm Service Equipment Company was going up west of Roseau.

Katherine Heppner of Warroad was opening the Specialty Sewing Service in the former Citizen State Bank Building. She was specializing in lingerie, fabrics and notions.

Rodney Johnson, Roseau high school senior wrestling in the 175 lb. class, won the Regional Championship and was heading to the State competition.

The basketball Rams defeated the Warroad Warriors 79-70 in the first game of the East Sub-District Tournament. Ron Bode lead the Rams with 23 points and Arnie Thompson lead the Warriors with 26 points.

Sheldon Erickson of Badger was to reign over the Winter Shows as King Agassiz the IX.

75 years ago – Feb. 22, 1945

Adolph Karlstad of Grand Forks who was in charge of an insulation truck here, was taken into custody by Policeman Ole Kittelson on a liquor charge. Policeman Kittelson found ten pints of Three Feather Whiskey in Karlstad’s car.

The home of Mr. and Mrs. Ole E. Lee of Ross was being prepared for the arrival of their daughter, Miss Alma. She had been confined to internment camps in Norway and Liebebau, Germany.

Pvt. Melvin Brenhaug arrived back in Roseau with his honorable discharge in his pocket. He was released from the service because of trouble with his foot.

Sgt. Douglas Temple, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ervan Temple of Roseau had been in the army for five years and was serving somewhere in the European theatre of war.

Playing under the name of the Roseau Harvesters, members of the Roseau high school hockey team were participating in an independent hockey tournament in Crookston.

Out in Wannaska young folks and older ones were making good use of the skating rink which was recently completed near the Lutheran Church there.

Darrel Rude, 8-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl B. Rude of Badger, had a narrow escape from death when he was hit by a car on the highway.
