Roseau Post 24 wins Crookston Doubleheader

On Tuesday, the Roseau American Legion Post 24 baseball team swept the American Legion Crookston team, 14-3 and 11-1.

In the 1st game, Crookston led through 3 innings, 3-2, but then the Roseau American Legion Lads caught fire, scoring 5 runs in the 4th inning and 7 runs in the 5th inning.

The leading hitter were Noah Pavek, Dylan Hedlund, and Adam Hedlund with 2 RBIs each.

Adam Hedlund pitched a complete game victory while giving up 6 hits, 3 runs and 6 walks while striking out 4.

In the nightcap, it was another dominating performance as Post 24 scored 6 in the 1st inning and were never challenged.

Paxton Pierce picked up the complete game victory while allowing 1 run, 4 walks, and registering 6 strike outs.

Leading the hit parade were Bryce Johnson, Noah Pavek, and Adam Hedlund with 2 RBIs each.

"We're 3 and 1 now," said head coach Josh Weckman, noting that they started their season with a doubleheader in Warroad on Tuesday, June 14.

"We split with Warroad," he said. "They won the 1st game, 5-1, and we won the 2nd game, 12-11."

Is Warroad tough?

"They've got some pretty good, high impact players," he said.

His squad is pretty competitive as well with the likes of Adam Hedlund, Tanner Landman, and a host of top level players from the Rams baseball team.

On average, Post 24 will play six games a week this summer until the playoffs.

And they do travel.

"We go to my hometown this weekend for the Ely DQ Grill and Chill Legion Classic," he said on Wednesday morning, mentioning that it is a three-day Legion tournament on June 24-26.

"We play one game on Friday, two on Saturday, and one on Sunday," he said.

Next Tuesday, June 28, they will play the BGMR American Legion team in a doubleheader in Greenbush.
