Royals reign in 12-2 victory over Muskies

Some games the bats just sing, and that was how it went for the Roseau Royals on Tuesday evening at Gilbertson Field against the visiting Warroad Muskies.

"It was 7 to 2 going into the bottom of the 8th, and we scored 5 runs to end it," said Nate Voll.

With the Royals banging out 15 hits and Nick Hoffard pitching a gem, the game was in the bag early as the Royals scored 2 runs in the 1st, 3rd, and 5th innings to lead, 6-1.

Yes, the Royals had hot bats with Kevin "Dirt" Erickson leading the way with 4 hits.

But it was Nick Hoffard, who did a great job keeping the Muskies off balance.

"We got a good pitching performance out of Hoffard," said Voll. "He threw a lot of strikes and kept us hitting."

If you're not out in the field, you're up at bat, and the Royals took advantage of their opportunities.

Jared Nelson, Levi Butler, and Gabe Magnusson had 2 RBIs each while Nate Voll and Wyatt Peppel scored 3 times and Kenny Hayden and Chanc Keefe scored twice.

Taking the loss for the Muskies was Mason McPherson, who pitched 6 innings and gave up 6 runs.

Nick Hoffard, the winning pitcher, pitched 7 innings while giving up 3 hits, 1 run and striking out 9.

Matt Howell pitched the final inning in relief as he gave up 2 hits and 1 run.

Next Wednesday, July 13, the Royals will play the Muskies in Warroad.
