Floyd Olson retired as Roseau Postmaster after twenty-five years of service

Walter and Marjorie Hellquist were celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary on August 20 at the Roseau City Park.

The Oakcrest Golf Course was 84 years old as of July 18, 2011.

Robert Jerome Kasprick of Roseau achieved high honors and was among more than 1,000 graduates of Normandale Community College.

Lee and Helen Lunos was named third “Yard of the Week” in Roseau.

Retired Polaris employees Jeff Bjorkman and Norm Berg were inducted into the Polaris Hall of Fame.

10 years ago – August 5, 2006

Alma Peterson recently celebrated her 98th birthday at the Warroad Care Center where she resides.

Selected as the eighth “Yard of the Week” in Roseau was the Ruth Ann and Roger Helgeson home in the Golf Course Addition.

Members of the Roseau Babe Ruth team that had a runner-up finish at the District tournament were Allen MeKash, Brady Wrightsman, Elijah Muirhead, Matt Bailey, Tyler Landman, Eric Massaro, Kyle Wensloff, Tyler Orgon, TJ Erickson, Chris Joy, Ethan Kvidt, Andrew Loewe, Matt Dostal, Ryan Weston, Kevin Erickson and Michael Lee.

Money grab winners during Crazy Daze in Roseau were Tara Peterson, Heidi Moser, Cheryl Millbridge, Pat Hildebrandt, Audrey Johnson, Gilbert Loe, Greg Herling, Luella Long, Ole Sonsteng, Bobbi Radcliffe, Lou Clinton and Dana Castle.

25 years ago – August 6, 1991

Floyd Olson retired as Roseau Postmaster after twenty-five years of service.

Due to Minnesota Legislative cuts Hayes Lake State Park has lost their lifeguards which were on duty from Tuesday through Sunday from 12:30-8:30 p.m.

Polaris Industries was to begin production of a sit-down version personal watercraft in Roseau in the first quarter of 1992.

Hardees was celebrating their “2nd birthday” in Roseau.

Loretta Goos, Earl Goos and Morris Goos were presented the County Clean Farm Award at the Roseau County Fair.

Lori Erickson of Roseau won two We Fest tickets at the fair in a promotion sponsored by Wally’s Supermarket and Qualex photo processing.

Lutheran Health Systems recently hired Kathy Nikunen, formerly of Roseau, as a physician recruiter based in Fargo, North Dakota.

Jerry Benjamin Endrizzi of Roseau and Marion Eleanor Johnson of Roseau applied for a marriage license.

40 years ago – August 5, 1976

Mr. and Mrs. Selvin Erickson Jr. of Badger announced the birth of a son, Jeremy John Erickson, on July 8.

Roseau County Outstanding Senior Citizens recognized at the Roseau County Fair were Inez Breiland, E.O. Anderson, Margaret Aas, Florence Evans, Perley Peterson and John Elton.

Pamela Hanson and Susan Tuttle of Roseau participated in the Minnesota Music Educators Association All-State Band at Bemidji State University.

Winners of the Clean Farm contest were Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Sather, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jenson, Mr. and Mrs. Byron Eeg and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Smith.

50 years ago – August 4, 1966

Mary Dahlquist of Roseau was crowned Miss Thief River Falls. Rachel Christianson of Roseau was the talent division winner.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Landin were the Roseau County Clean Farm contest winner.

Roy Hovorka was named the new manager of the Montgomery-Ward Catalog Store in Roseau.

Mr. and Mrs Carl Nelson of Wannaska were celebrating their golden wedding anniversary with an open house on August 7 at their home.

Mr. and Mrs. Francis Drown observed their 45th wedding anniversary on July 24 at the Roseau Municipal Auditorium.

Attending music camp in Bemidji were Roseau High School students Diane Olson, Jerry Halvorson, Mitchell Johnson, Adelaide Habstritt and John Lindberg.

75 years ago – August 7, 1941

Mary’s Cafe changed ownership and the name was now Ann’s Cafe.

Pioneer lady Mrs. Hulda Fugleberg received her death summons. Hulda, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Markstrom, was a resident of the community for the past fifty-three years.

Leaving for military training were Elwood Billberg of Wannaska and Charles Dumais of Warroad.

Miss Margaret Lenore Loff and Hilding Dahlgren were united in marriage on August 2.

Iver Nelson took over the duties of secretary-treasurer of the Malung Telephone Company.

A stork visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Bjerk of Roseau and left them a boy.

A daughter came to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Knochenmus of Salol.

Jimmy O’Rourke injured his hands while at work doing some sawing. The doctor had to take a hand and do some embroidery to close the wounds.
