The Roseau Lake area has a rich history and is locally referred to as the Lake Bottom. At the western edge of the lake, near the Roseau River, there is believed to be a Native American burial ground. It is believed that there was a village in the area as well. Prior to Roseau Lake being drained in the early 1900’s, local residents used that lake as a recreation area. Being a shallow lake, it was an excellent fishery.
