State Patrol Legend Sylvia Maurstad Retires

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, Sgt. Sylvia D. Maurstad, a 28-year Minnesota State Trooper, officially and quietly retired.

There was no fanfare, no goodbyes, no banquets, and no speeches as Maurstad, Badge 108, is so well-known, so feared, and so successful at ticketing grandmas, school kids, truckers, tourists and even preachers that it ends an era in which she dominated area highways and even city streets.

Everyone knew of her.

On Monday afternoon, Lt. Luke Millette, with the Minnesota State Patrol office in Thief River Falls, confirmed her recent retirement.
