Wetlands are extremely valuable not only to wildlife, but people too. Did you know that in certain parts of the United States, wetlands provide a place to grow rice, cranberries, and blueberries? Besides delicious grain- and berry-producing plants, most fish and shellfish that we like to eat spend some stage of their lives in wetlands. People also use wetlands for a variety of recreational activities. We visit wetlands to watch birds and other wildlife, canoe, hunt, fish, take pictures, and just to enjoy being outdoors, seeing the sights and listening to the sounds of nature.
