If George Bass, 43, isn't your typical District 1A legislative candidate, the DFL challenger is definitely excited to be in the race.

Mr. Bass, a native of Gambia in West Africa who holds an MBA from the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota, worked for a French oil company in Gambia before coming to America.

"I emigrated to the United States in 1998," he said on Monday evening from Thief River Falls, where he lives and has worked for Northland Community and Technical College since 2012.
