Channing Kimble walked into a conference room at the Roseau Police Department this past Tuesday, and he could pass for a young executive.

Except that he was in uniform and packing a piece.

The recent graduate of Bemidji State University with a bachelor's degree in law enforcement stands out for another reason.

He smiles often.

Mr. Kimble, 22, has chosen a field which can sometimes be very challenging and include long shifts, but he is undeterred.

"I just like helping people," he said about this profession that can make you seem like a bad guy if you give someone a ticket for speeding.
