Thune Insurance reigns supreme at Oakcrest

September 3, 2016

They're not the Dirty Dozen, but the half dozen members on the Thune Insurance team roared to the 9-hole team title on Wednesday evening as they dominated in racking up 149 points to Lundbohm Accounting's 124 points and Top Guns' 87 points.

"It was absolutely a fun night tonight and lots of good golf in the playoffs," said Commissioner Mark Wilson.

If it's happened before, he didn't say. "It was pretty exciting to have a hole in one in the playoffs tonight," he said.

Mr. Wilson, the keeper of the records, noted that Thune Insurance has been the season long champs while Lundbohm Accounting won the first half of the season and Top Guns won the second half of the season to set up the first ever three-team championship playoffs.

Told that it had been a convincing performance by Thune Insurance, Wilson agreed.

"They kind of laid it down pretty good," he said. "They had a very solid night of golf.

Meet the Champs

"The 2016 Men's League Team Champions are Thune Insurance with Nick Herling, Scott Turnow, Josh Sunsdahl, Brad Zoeller, Keith Vatnsdal, and Jason Guy," said Mr. Wilson.

He noted that a few of the players on the Thune team experienced winning their first championship.

"That was neat to see," he said, before commenting on the dominance of the winning team.

"As far as a playoff goes, that's as big a playoff win as I've had the chance to see," he said. "Most of the time, we've had these two-team playoffs and they end up 63 to 57.

"Or, last year, my team beat DQ, 61-59. They end up almost down to the last putt," he said. "But this one was no last putt. It was done pretty convincingly."
