It was the highlight of their summer with memories that will last a lifetime.

In all, Roseau County sent 77 4-H youth to Minnesota's grand event in two different encampments.

If it sounds like a bivouac, it was.

"We stayed at the 4-H Building," said Steph Walsh-Olafson, the lone assistant to Roseau County 4-H Director Sandi Weiland.

Each went separately - Weiland with the livestock encampment and Olafson with the general encampment.

There was a similarity to a military encampment as they slept in rows of 500 bunk beds on the 3rd floor with minimal amenities (no air conditioning) and, yes, some...
