During the weekend of September 15-17, Darlene Danielson was right where she wanted to be - out in the Beltrami Island State Forest and far from the comforts of modern living.

Every year, she is the chief cook and bottle washer for Roseau County's annual fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Some groups might want to rent fancy ballrooms to host fundraisers, but the Bemis Hill campground comes with the right price for Darlene and the gang.

It's free to the public.

Besides, she is more comfortable in cowboy boots, standing around a campfire, and sidestepping a little manure...
