Dale "Smo" Smedsmo, a hometown boy except for the years he spent playing professional hockey and the winters of late when he and his gal head south to Florida, was enjoying a fine October afternoon recently.

He was straightening out his stepson's (Dustin "Big Buff" Byfuglien) boat as he rearranged the fishing tackle while standing in the boat next to the alley behind his house.

It's a boat worth stealing - a 522 Ranger, 23 feet in length with a 300 horse Evinrude. The outboard motor alone runs from 25 to 28 grand.
