Roseau Peewee AA weekly summary

December 20, 2019

The Peewees continued their long homestand this week, winning all three of their games and extending their winning streak to fourgames and their record to 7-3.

On Thursday the 12th Thief River Falls visited Memorial for an evening contest. Austin Klint started off the scoring in the 1st on a shorthanded goal, Jake Halvorson added another later in the period and Roseau headed to the first intermission up 2-0. The second period saw TRF pull within one on a power play goal, but Klint answered to bring it back to a 2-goal lead at 3-1 after two. Roseau added goals by Tucker Kvien, Halvorson’s 2nd and another shorthanded tally, this time by Cade Ginther, to wrap up a solid 6-1 win.

On Saturday the 14th the highly ranked and undefeated East Grand Forks Peewees traveled to Roseau for a morning game at the Rams Sports Center. The boys got outshot in the 1st but managed to escape with a scoreless 1st period behind outstanding goaltending from Abram Hinson. Tucker Kvien finally broke the ice in the 2nd to put the boys up 1-0, a lead that would last until there were 3 minutes left in the period before EGF scored on a power play to even it up heading into the 2nd intermission. Six minutes into the 2nd Austin Klint gave Roseau a 2-1 lead, but 10 seconds later EGF tied it at 2. This tie lasted until there were only 47 seconds left in the game before Cade Ginther put away a rebound for the game winning goal.

After playing two preseason scrimmages against them, the Warroad boys made the trip to Memorial on Tuesday the 17th for the first official game of the year between these 2 teams. Like the EGF game, this one ended the 1st period scoreless. Liam Johnson opened the scoring early in the 2nd with a nice shot from the blue line, and Tucker Kvien added a 2nd before Warroad got on the board to bring it back to 2-1. Kvien added a 2nd before the end of the period and the Roseau boys headed to the locker room up 3-1 after two. The 3rd period saw Warroad pull within one on a power play before Isaac Baumgartner scored and Jake Halvorson added an empty net goal to end the game at 5-2.

This weekend the Peewees and their families are hosting the annual Paul Broten tournament with games starting on Friday at 9:00 a.m. and going throughout the weekend on all three local ice sheets.
