Just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Principal Amy McGuire, who was still in her office, had her take on the first day of school.

"It went really well, and it was awesome to see all of the parents and students just being really patient with us," she said, appreciative that the parents didn't enter the school.

"They were great to give their kids a hug, send them in, and we were ready for them. Honestly, it went pretty great."

Mrs. McGuire was also impressed with the youngsters wearing masks.
