Salol 1 Stop has new owners

by Grace Everett

Jordan and Breanna Kofstad, of Roseau, found the perfect fit for them in February of this year; the 'iconic' Salol 1 Stop.

They are the owners and operators of USA Realty. Breanna had been keeping an eye out for a business to call her own, and when Jordan listed the building through USA Realty, she decided to take a visit. "We visited the store and I fell in love with it."

Breanna's parents both grew up in small towns, Thief River Falls and Badger. Although she was raised in the cities, Breanna knew she wanted to work in the small town community.

Jordan's parents both grew up in Roseau and raised their family here as well.

Breanna mentioned the store in Salol was right up her alley. She attended the University of North Dakota and graduated with a degree in marketing. Post-graduation, she worked at the University for seven years. After COVID-19 hit and she left her job, "I knew I wanted to get back to work and own my own business." Salol 1 Stop, previously owned by Ron and Mindy Kjelland, was the appropriate opportunity.

Breanna spent an abundant amount of time "training and learning from Mindy" while trying to pick up on the key aspects of the store and community. The Kofstads officially purchased the store on June 15 and began a few updates before their opening day on June 26.

When asked about current or future plans, she said, "We already did a big update over the last two weeks. Facelift-type updates." Jordan and Breanna also mentioned that they are keeping meat, along with everything else Ron and Mindy sold for the good of the community. However, bait was added to the shelves during the updates.

Our discussion ended with a little chatter about the community. During her time training with Mindy, she got to soak up the "loyal and dedicated customer base." The Salol community is a crucial piece to keeping the store up and running. They are dedicated to doing their best and puttng in the extra effort to keep the "legacy" of the store alive.

Breanna stated that she is "very honored that everybody has been so supportive." She is excited to dig into the community and truly get to know these people. One important event mentioned was the Salol Cornhole League. It takes place every Thursday night and is, in Breanna's words, a "big deal."

The Kofstads are beyond thrilled to serve the Salol community, and the passer-throughs.
