Just remembering some old and odd characters

Sometimes, I finish an interview thinking, "Now, that's a person I'd like to sit down and drink a beer with."

What's really uncharacteristic is thinking, "And I'll buy!"

I've been in this racket - reporter and columnist - for over 35 years at the Times-Region.

I've interviewed princes and paupers. doctors and deadbeats, chumps and champs, and countless thieves and rascals.

It's been a fun run.

I'm more comfortable with factory workers than millionaires.

Admittedly, I haven't interviewed too many of the latter, and none has ever treated me to lunch.
