You can't always be quick out of the chute

On Sunday, I was very late to the Roseau Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

I had the best excuse ever.

I was at home washing dishes.

Nobody believed me.

Especially the men.

And some women, too.

Damn right, I was washing dishes.

I got there with about 15 minutes to spare and was immediately impressed with Kari (née DeJong) Ryan, who gave the acceptance speech for her teammates on the Lady Rams 1999 state runner-up volleyball squad.

She was sensational.

We met afterwards out in the hallway.

I was surprised she knew me.

"Hi, Bro," she said with a terrific smile and hugged me.
