Serving Roseau County for over 100 Years - The Official Roseau County Newspaper
At 11:28 p.m., November 8th, 2023, Alyssa Aune heard three gun shots fired into their horse pasture which is next to their house. Their horse, Parker, was shot and had to be put down because of his injuries. This occurred near Gatzke, Marshall County. Four miles from HWY 89.
Not just any horse, Parker was truly one of the best. He was one of those horses you could put anyone on (kids and beginner riders) and they'd feel safe. He never gave a bad ride. Horse owners know how difficult it is to find a horse like this. If you have ever been to the PBR Thunder On Hooves Bullride at the Thief River Falls Fair in the past, you probably saw Parker carrying flags. He was to become the first horse for Alyssa's niece, but sadly she will never get to ride him now. They had owned him for over 12 years and anticipated many more.
A $2,500 reward will be offered to anyone who can provide information that leads to the SUCCESSFUL PROSECUTION of the individual(s) responsible for this crime. Your courage to come forward can make a significant difference. Please contact the Marshall County Sheriff's Department at 218-745-5411 with details.
Alyssa said, "Saying goodbye to a horse in their last days is something. But, saying goodbye to a horse who had its leg shot off in a senseless act is traumatic. I will forever have that moment etched into my mind and it will haunt me for the rest of my life."
Stay vigilant, and if you see or hear anything suspicious, please call your local law enforcement. Keep a close watch on your homes, family, livestock, and pets.
