In 1966 Archie Cameron was drafted into the military. As a nineteen-year-old he did not know many military stereotypes, but he knew it would not be a walk in the park. When Archie was drafted, he had the choice to fight in Vietnam or be in another military branch. He decided to enlist in the Navy and volunteered to work in the Navy Submarine Service. He was trained from 1966 to 1968, before being deployed in Europe to work on the USS Alexander Hamilton submarine.
