It could be a harrowing time to be a kid in the mid-1950s.
The damn Russkies had the hydrogen bomb, and they were going to drop it right on Christ the King Catholic Grade School in south Minneapolis.
Blow it to smithereens.
And here were the Sisters of St. Joseph instructing us to hide under our desks with the ink wells and to be sure to keep our heads down because the rows of tall glass windows with all the panes that I'd count when I was supposed to be paying attention, were going to explode into tiny shards of glass that would kill half of us.
