When Lester Grafstrom, 87, died suddenly last week out in Salol in rural Roseau County, I couldn't imagine a better way to go.

He was having coffee in his kitchen with his brothers, Dayton and Sam - his best friends - when he suffered a fatal heart attack.

I wished I had known him better.

He was quite the man, and the epitome of decency and determination.

In my book, he and Verna, the parents of 14 kids, were special, especially in these days of two or three kids per family households.

For sure, nobody knew him better than his family, and I was interested in what it was like growing up in a bi...
