GoodBye, ByGone Days,

Ecclesiastes 1:9

That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done, And there is nothing new under the sun.

I can be at work, busy, or trimming bushes in my back yard. Sometimes past happenings absolutely broadside me. I'm not writing this from the standpoint of having workable answers (and I do have some), but dealing with this is still a work in progress.

Memories may be both good and bad. It seems like the bad is what slams me, negative emotion, embarrassing guilt. I know that every human being will experience this to some extent. When this happens it really helps to know what you believe. Another important thing is to know whom you should go to for trustworthy advice. Choose carefully. What is your framework for advice built on? If you have no foundation to work off of you will slip and slide all over. Remember the framework you choose will have to hold you up when everything else falls apart. Be wise

About taking advice, back when I had the store Artists On Main, there was a pastor (who is no longer in the area) who told me that whenever he was in a conflict, he would "lean into it" and never back away. He would always push forward. "Push" is the word he used to describe his verbal posture. (I think this is what he learned in the military). I thought, "He's a pastor, he is a leader, he has a lot of experience. Well, it was the worst advice I have ever taken. I learned by experience that his experience did not meet my situation and greatly damaged my relationships. And another thing, it wasn't backed by Scripture!

Another thought: Will the direction your thoughts take you bring peace, healing, and comfort? Or are you going to fuel the fire which has already begun? What does the final outcome you desire look like? How do you want it to look when or if it is resolved?

Your safety is another consideration. If the outcome is further abuse, do not live with an active time bomb. You need to stay away from any further attack. Back up, turn around and leave.

Philippians 3:13-14

Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

1 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Psalm 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

The above verses are part of what makes up my personal foundation. Refocusing and memorizing scripture is the only way I have found to "remake my mind" or "change the direction of my thinking."

Blessings, Julie
