An important date slipped by on Monday, December 31, which is understandable since none of us was alive when this special date was first celebrated up here.

On Monday, December 31, 1894, Roseau County was founded.

Lost in all those 124 years was how they actually celebrated the event or how cold it was.

My best guess is that it was 28 below zero, and most of the inhabitants had been wearing the same long underwear for several weeks.
