  • Meet an amazing trio of snowmobile enthusiasts

    Jeff Olsen|Feb 2, 2019

It was a heck of a ride! Turn back the clock to December 1966 and get acquainted with Jim Langley, who was 29 and an independent Polaris dealer in the Twin Cities. He was ready for a change of scenery and it was some trek, all by snowmobile, from coast to coast on 1967 Polaris Colts, built in the fall of 1966 right here in Roseau. He is 81 now, still full of excitement, an "aw shucks" attitude, and plenty of mischief in his voice. Locally, meet Mitch Magnusson and Monica Dohmen, a couple of swee...

  • Can you outspell these talented wordsmiths?

    Jeff Olsen|Feb 2, 2019

Forget the "i" before "e" except after "c". It was for all the marbles a week ago Monday evening in the School Community Theater as 16 of the finest spellers competed in the Roseau School District's Spelling Bee. With Mr. Len Wenzel pronouncing each word, using it in a sentence, and repeating the word again, the judges - Mrs. Sherry Nelson, Mrs. Carla Olsen, and Ms. Ann Olson - determined if the contestant had spelled a word correctly. "One wrong letter and it's over," said Ms. Olson. "We...

The Rams were able to get many easy shots from teammates passing the ball up the court. The Rams cruised to a 48-15 half time lead against the Gators. During the first half of the game Kacie Borowicz scored her 3,000 point. Congrats Kacie and the Roseau Ram Team. The Rams start out the second half with aggressive defense and all players were able to see action. The Rams were victorious 76-33. Scori...

  • ERIC HOFFER SCORES 1000 POINT, RAMS CONTINUE WINNING STREAK!

    Gregg Iverson|Feb 2, 2019

The Roseau Rams are now on a nine game winning streak and have a 13-2 overall record, having played two games this week with a third one just being postponed on 1/29 due to the other school, WOA (Warren-Alvarado-Oslo) canceling school. That game by the way has been rescheduled for Feb. 11, 2019, so mark that on your calendar. The Rams traveled to Red Lake Falls to take on the Rebels of RLCC on Jan. 24. Now if you were to have looked at RLCC's record (now 6-8) and looked at the teams they have played, you would have noticed that quite a few of...

  • Remembering the good, the bad, and the ugly

    Jeff Olsen|Feb 2, 2019

Mother of Pearl! Of course, I knew it was coming. It's a fact of life that none of us is getting out of here alive. Still, it hurts. Ole Kompelien died on Saturday, January 26, at age 89, and he was a tough old bird when I first bumped into him in 1976 at Marvin Windows. He was about six-two and imposing. He’d often scowl, trying to put the fear of Jesus in me back then. That went on for a number of years until I gave him a solid whack against his chest with my right arm and did a backheel t...

  • How to Ease Sciatic Pain...Sure!

    Jodi Wojciechowski|Feb 2, 2019

Sciatic pain can be excruciating, almost unbearable at times. But there are many ways to find relief (REALLY!) and begin working towards being pain-free. (I almost believe this article, so I’m going to follow everything it says!) The sciatic nerve starts in the lower back, and it runs all the way through the buttock and down the back of the legs. (True!) I agree it is VERY excruciating! Friday I had a little tweak happen in my back at work. No big deal, it only hurt a little. Not to much l...
