by Jeff Olsen Robyn (née Boroos) Wiskow, a 1978 Roseau High School graduate, knows how to make an impression, then and now. In early February, Stuart McFarlane, the president of Citizens State Bank in Roseau, recalled the day in 1978 although he was still in high school and hadn't been present. "I heard this second-hand. She came over from the swimming pool, the way I understand it, in a two-piece swimsuit and walked into Allen Dallum's office and applied for a job." There was a big smile. "He... Full story

Adam and Beckie Erdmann own Horizon Properties which is headquartered across from Citizen's State Bank and has rehabbed buildings in Roseau, Warroad, Warren, Red Lake Falls, Hawley, and Karlstad, a total of 98 units. Poems by: Peter Lund Roseau Community School Mrs. Olsen’s Sophomore English Place The Tower I remember that day The day I saw the tower It was great, giant, and beautiful. Everyone was looking at her From the very bottom to the tip top That famous beautiful French tower Home The Days Do you remember the days? They would be so so bright Bright just like the sun When everything seemed all right The days at the pool felt like a dream Through the hot days that seemed extreme. Or being at the ocean Surrounded by all the commotion They were filled w...
In our journey as followers of Christ, we are constantly confronted with the challenge of navigating a world rife with discordant voices. The recent tenor of public discourse, particularly in the political realm, compels us as pastors and leaders in the faith to ponder deeply the principles of our Christian ethics. When we encounter language that disparages or belittles, especially when directed at individuals who have contributed significantly to our community, it is not merely a matter of... Full story
Traveling through life, if each day is committed to God, can be spiritually as well as physically renewing. Today's reflections come from two little girls, about third and fourth grade, at the KOA Campground near Red Lodge, Montana. We were on vacation, and I was laying in our tent late in the afternoon soaking up some mountain rest before we left for the Pig Races at Bear Creek. The two little girls I mentioned had been taking turns riding a rental bicycle back and forth on the driveway in fron...
Just the other day I was going through the cabinets in our kitchen and came across a can of chicory coffee that Melissa and I picked up on a trip to New Orleans. I was going to throw it away as the coffee was a few years old. Melissa walked into the kitchen, “Look at this,” I said holding up the can. “Where did you find that,” she asked. “Is there anything in it?” “It was buried in the cabinet,” I answered. “It's about two-thirds full, but I’m going to throw it away. It’s a few years old, I ca...

At first, I coveted a pair of Trump's newest business venture. His tennis shoes are selling for a mere $399 a pair, and I wanted some local MAGA supporter to buy me a pair as a demonstration of his or her affection for a total scamp, who is almost shoeless. Here's what politics is really all about: If you lose the election, you're fired. It's the same in any corporation. They walk you out the door carrying a box of family photos and mementos, and then the door slams shut behind you. Good...
Laurel wrote an article on the doughnut lady, Kathy Searle, last week. Jokingly I texted Laurel telling her the office really needed to sample the doughnuts. The RTR had a visitor with a HUGE bag of doughnuts! Kathy stopped in with freshly made doughnuts! I didn't know Laurel had told Kathy about my text, but thank you for sharing it Laurel! The doughnuts were amazeballs!! Kathy shared blueberry and plain doughnuts with the office. I'm not sure which I liked better. Kathy definitely knows how...
Life often is like trying to pick up a turd on its clean end. There are just things that pop up and clobber you over the head. If you're suffering from a lack of hugs, try stopping at the jail and bringing the deputies and staff some SuperOne donuts. I figured I should take my own advice from last week's column and thank a Roseau officer or deputy for keeping us safe. The Sheriff's Office was closed on Monday, so I walked around the corner and stopped by the jail. The woman gave me a hug. It...
Boy are the liberal left crowing about how evil Putin is. Putin’s number one political rival died in prison. That would be a dream come true for dems if Trump was to die in prison. If Putin was a nice guy there wouldn’t have been forty-three assassination attempts on him. He probably would not need more than twenty-five hundred people that have the skills and training to keep him alive. Any means to the end that he desires is no problem no matter how many people are hurt or killed. The only difference between Putin and our own political cri... Full story
