  • President-Elect Trump Leads the Republican Ascendancy

    Jeff Olsen|Nov 12, 2016

Donald J. Trump, who ran a shock and awe presidential campaign that stressed making America great again, building a wall along the Mexican border, renegotiating trade agreements, passing tougher immigration laws, rescinding Obamacare, nominating conservative Supreme Court justices, and promising to bring the factories back to America, was right in step with Roseau County, which saw Mr. Trump outpolling Hillary Clinton, 5,437 to 1,829 - or 70.11 percent of the total vote. In the process, Trump al...

  • The Roseau Library is on a roll

    Jeff Olsen|Nov 12, 2016

What's next on tap at the library? Brewing beer, launching a rocket, shearing sheep? Only Kate Hammer, the new librarian with a flair for making things interesting, knows that answer. But she knows a winner when she sees one. On Thursday, October 27, David and Diane Lee put on a lefse making presentation. "We had 30 people," said Hammer, smiling when asked if this was the first ever lefse-making class at the library. "It is!" she said with the enthusiasm of the Galloping Gourmet. She explained...

    Jeff Olsen|Nov 12, 2016

Short of hurricanes, earthquakes and typhoons, Mayor Jeff Pelowski doesn't get too excited. It's business as usual. On Monday, prior to the Roseau City Council meeting, he was asked about Resolution No. 37-16, which runs nine, double-sided pages and deals with a joint powers agreement between the City of Roseau and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. He explained that it's a renewal between the City of Roseau and the BCA. "In order to access BCA data, we need this agreement to share data with... Full story

  • You call 'em the way you see 'em

    Jeff Olsen|Nov 12, 2016

It's Saturday evening, we have an early deadline this week, so I can't wait until Wednesday morning to see who wins this bloody election and then add my two cents' worth. It would be the first two cents that I contributed to either party. I'm just glad it's over although if it's Trump, we're screwed. He scares me and fascinates me, much like Hitler must have scared and fascinated the Germans, so much so that they thought, "He'll be all right. He's just talking." He wasn't. He meant every damn...

  • What Laws?

    Al Buffum|Nov 12, 2016

Some people are saying… they believe our nation is quickly degrading into a lawless society. Most certainly… in light of the very recent upsurge in violent crime in our major cities… the murderous animosity towards police officers… the increased number of road rage incidents… people are beginning to take matters into their own hands. In fact… to be honest… the upsurge in the sales of firearms is partially due to a sense our established societal protection and judicial systems are failing to ke...
