  • Brad Dokken makes the outdoors a real adventure

    Jeff Olsen|Mar 13, 2021
    1

by Jeff Olsen Lots of blokes and babes get up every morning, throw on their work clothes and think, "Another day of drudgery!" That doesn't include one particular chap, who could probably write a decent theater review except that he would rather reel in a nice lake trout or follow the northern migration of snow geese. If he can work it into an assignment, it might appear in newsprint or online as one of his favorite outdoor adventures. Brad Dokken, a local boy who basically blew this town four...

  • Write On: The best part of me: My hands

    Ryan Erickson|Mar 13, 2021

by Ryan Erickson, English 11, Mrs. Didrikson The best part of me is my hands. I use my hands all of the time, and couldn't imagine life without them. I use them in almost everything I do. Even if they get super cold really fast and easily. I use them playing catch with my siblings whether it's a football, baseball, or frisbee. I also love playing those things with other people or family and have so much fun whenever I can. Another thing is I love music, and without my hands, I would have a very...

It was a call from a friend, named Loren. Ring Ring, he said,"Julie, can you and Joe come over to the shop for a minute?" I said, "Loren, what is this all about?" "Just come over ok?" he repeated. • The years don't dim the memories

    Jeff Olsen|Mar 13, 2021

Say all you want about the overemphasis on sports in our lives. I still miss Kirby Puckett and Mickey Mantle. And if I mentioned Jimmy Piersall, any kid under 60 would draw a blank. Occasionally, when my old man, a 1900 model, was enjoying a glass of Hudson Bay scotch whiskey on the rocks, he would mention the exploits of boxers Jack Dempsey and Luis Firpo - the Wild Bull of the Pampas - and recall the great fight in 1922 that went just two rounds with the champ Dempsey flooring the Wild Bull se... Full story

    Jodi Wojciechowski|Mar 13, 2021

When we arrived at our condo I thought it was so nice of the owners to leave us a bowl of fruit! What a nice little welcome to South Padre Island. I decided it should be put in the fridge so it stayed fresh. Kyle went to get something from the fridge and he said, "Did you put the bowl of fruit in here?!" Well yes, who else would! He said, "You do know it's fake fruit!" What, no way...I had to go investigate. Ummm ok, he was correct! (That doesn't happen often...lol) I sent Brandon the same... Full story

When he woke up there were chunks out of his pillow and his mouth was full of feathers! You can use pillows between furniture items in a moving van to keep them from being scratched. Kids can have a pillow fight in their cabin at Bible Camp. And their counselor can bridge the gap between himself and the kids by joining in.... Full story
